It’s the third bank holiday this month, so once again, there’s no one in the office to take your calls today. The girls will be back bright and early tomorrow morning, though.
I’m also not here today – but don’t worry, you’re not hallucinating! I’m coming to you via the miracle of email scheduling – I’m actually in Spain at the moment, probably getting rained on if the forecast was anything like accurate. Ah well…
Anyway, I’ve got a quick bit of news today for any of you who use WhatsApp. At some point over the next few weeks, there’s a change coming that people have been asking for for a long time – you’re going to be able to edit your messages after you’ve sent them.
I know it happens to me a lot – I’ll be quickly sending a message, type what I think makes sense, send it, and look up to see gobbledegook! Sometimes that’s thanks to the predictive text on my phone, sometimes it’s just my own cack-handedness. But at the moment all you can do is either send another message with a correction or delete the nonsense one and try again.
Deleting a message leaves a mysterious “This message has been deleted” on the other person’s phone, though. (A friend of mine does it all the time, and it drives me potty! What did you say that you felt the need to expunge it from the internet? The mind boggles!)
So I don’t generally recommend deleting messages.
But when this update comes, you’ll be able to edit a message for 15 minutes after you’ve sent it. So if you’ve tapped send too soon, missed a crucial word, or your phone has substituted, say, “sandwich” with “badger” (wouldn’t put it past mine) – you can correct it.
Can’t come too soon for me!
Anyway, that’s it for this week. I’ll be back next time with a bit of a treat for you. A few of us are working on something a little bit different for next week – and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do…
