Technical advice from a 6 year old…

By | March 16, 2017
This content is 7 years old. Please, read this page keeping its age in mind. Thank you.

So, the other day I promised I’d tell you a bit more about what I’m working on at the moment – something to help when things go wrong with your smartphone.

There are all sorts of problems you can have – big problems where it simply won’t turn on and little problems where one particular thing on it stops working or starts behaving oddly… or just differently.

Anyway, I also promised I’d tell you what Alastair said about it (for anyone who’s not been reading this newsletter for very long, Alastair and Edward are my two little boys – Alastair’s 6 years old and Edward’s 4).

Well, I’d picked them up from school and asked what they’d been up to today. Then Alastair asked me what I’d been doing. So I told him I was working on a book to help people when they have problems with their phones.

“I know,” he said “you should tell them to turn it off, wait for a minute, then turn it back on again.”

Pretty good advice, in fact. And yes, it is in the book! But I have to admit it won’t solve every problem. A good first thing to try, though.

Well, the book isn’t ready just yet – you won’t be able to order it for a while yet. But it will cover all sorts of things that can go wrong… and what to do about them. I’ve been amazed at the variety of different problems people have with their phones… and at how some of them aren’t even obvious, so you might not realise something annoying about them is actually something wrong, rather than just the way it’s suppose to be.

I’ll have more information on when it’ll be available shortly – watch this space…

I have recently bought a smartphone but for some reason have not been able to transfer my email accounts from either my Tablet or laptop except one which is Gmail which seemed to transfer itself automatically.
I have visited the EE shop a few times and they are very helpful about most queries but not the issue I have of transferring other email accounts.
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?

      Hi Christine

Thanks for your comment, we would probably suggest you look in the help pages of the website (for example talktalk’s help pages here http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/email-0 ) for the email address you want to use on your tablet. Usually you need things like server settings and your username and password. Then put these into your email App on the tablet and it should start picking up new emails from that account.

I’m afraid we can’t give exact technical support, but if you find the help pages of the email address you want to use on your tablet they should have details on how to set that up.

      Thank you

      Mike
