This week, I’ve got a bit of recommended viewing for you if you ever get worried about scams. There are a lot of them around, and your best defence against them is to know how to see them coming!

But first… I mentioned last week that we’d been working on bringing our online courses up to date – and I wanted to tell you a bit more about them.

You see, over the years we’ve written books about PCs, tablets and smartphones that thousands of people have told me really helped. And some of you might know that in the past we also recorded videos explaining how to use various gadgets.

The thing is, both ways have their advantages – and we always found it frustrating that we couldn’t somehow combine both into one thing.  Except, with the courses, we have – or done something very similar.  The courses really do combine the advantages of reading a book and watching videos – watching things demonstrated.  I reckon it’s the next best thing to me coming round to your house to show you!

And tomorrow, on Tuesday 31st January, at 11am, I’ll be re-opening the courses to new members.

You’ll find out the full details about how they work, who they’re suitable for (and who they’re not suitable for), what they cover and so on. (And when the courses are available until.)

So watch out for an email from me tomorrow.

Phone Scams – Don’t Get Caught Out
On Wednesday last week, a new documentary series started on Channel 5 (you can watch the first episode online on their website here or through the My5 app). In it, Alexis Conran talks through all the different sorts of scam that could trip you up, how to spot them and what to do if you think you might have been caught by one.

It’s a three-part series on Wednesdays at 8pm. The second episode focuses on online shopping scams, and the third one covers the “identity theft” scams that can be so much worse than just having your money nicked!

I haven’t watched the whole of the first episode yet, but I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far. There’s some really sound advice in there, if you’ve got an hour to spare.

Anyway, stay safe – and look out for my email about the courses tomorrow at 11am (UK time).
