My lounge, sleep & Christmas presents

This content is 7 years old. Please, read this page keeping its age in mind. Thank you.

I’ve got something a little different for you this time – instead of writing this email, I’ve recorded it.

You see, after I’d mentioned using a Fire Stick to turn a normal TV into a “smart” TV, so you can watch online “catch up” programmes on it, someone asked on the Inner Circle how you actually control the FireStick.

It does have a remote control, but there aren’t many buttons on it – and it’s hard to explain, so I decided it would be easier to show you.

So I’ve recorded a little video – well, I say little but it ended up 15 minutes long! It’s not Hollywood production levels, of course. It’s just recorded in my lounge. But it should help make it clearer how to control your firestick if you have one or are thinking of getting one. If you have a different type of Smart TV, it might be helpful, too, as the principles are similar – though then it won’t work in exactly the same way.

Anyway, you can watch it here.

Sleep & Christmas Presents
Last time I said that in the run-up to Christmas, I’d mention one or two books that might make good Christmas presents. (And of course, if you do choose to order any of them, you’ll get a copy of the short book “Best of 2017” completely free, as a Christmas present from us to you.)

And this time I wanted to tell you about a book that isn’t anything to do with technology – well, not directly. It’s called “Sleep: Cutting Through the Claptrap – What Everyone Should Know About Sleep, Why it Matters and How to Get a Good Night’s Rest”.

I say not directly to do with technology because lots of people talk about how with so much technology around nowadays, and the fast pace of life, it can make it harder to sleep enough. There are certainly lots of people not getting enough sleep… and not always realising how damaging that can be.

Anyway, the book goes through various things you can do to improve your sleep, how they work (or don’t) and what the evidence is like for whether they actually work. I was gobsmacked at how many popular tricks, techniques and so on are promoted that have no evidence at all that they actually do anything at all!

Anyway, if you’re interested, there’s more about it (and you can order a copy)  on our website here – or call us on 01229 777606 if you’d like to order and would rather do it over the phone.

How to control fire stick – the best Christmas present by far. Thank you. Merry Christmas!
