12 years old – and brand new… (Watch out on Monday)

This content is 5 years old. Please, read this page keeping its age in mind. Thank you.

12 years ago I wrote a pair of books called Next Steps on Your PC and Next Steps on the Internet.

They were really popular – they went a bit beyond how to actually work your PC and showed you how to do a variety of things that lots of people wanted to do with their PCs.

They’ve been out of print for a while now, though, even though they were really popular.

So a while back I dusted a copy off and had a look through it. Some things were out of date, of course – things change so fast now!

And nowadays people don’t want to only use their PCs for these kinds of things – you might want to use a tablet or smartphone instead.

Not to mention the fact that there are things you can do on your PC, laptop, tablet or phone that weren’t even possible back in 2007!

Which is why we’d taken the books out of print.

On the other hand, as I flipped through a copy, I realised a lot of it was still useful… and more of it would be useful if I just updated it and added in how to do the things on a tablet or phone as well… and i started thinking of extra things I could add…

Well, to cut a long story short that’s exactly what I ended up doing – sitting down and re-writing the books. They’re pretty much completely re-written, every page being changed. I would say the only thing that stayed the same is the title, but I even changed that to Next Steps on your PC, Laptop, Tablet or Smartphone.

And I’m glad to say that they’re now just about finished. I just have a last few checks and then I can send them off to print – with any luck that’ll be tomorrow.

So, barring any disasters that stop me getting it done (mass power cuts, losing my keys and getting locked out of the office, being abducted by aliens…) I should be ready to let you know all about the books and even let you order a copy from next Monday.

I’ll send out an email with full details (and with info on how to order them if you’re interested) on Monday 21st January at 11am (UK time).

Watch out for my email – you’ll find out what’s covered, what the books are like and who they’re suitable for.

If you have a PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet, I think you’ll find them helpful…

Thank you again for your messages about your latest publications.
Please could you help me get my WiFi back. With my advanced years, I seem to have lost the connection in the middle of receiving lots of photos on Messenger of our grandson’s nuptials in Perth WA. It is very frustrating, and I cannot be sure I have the right passwords and all.

Best wishes and many thanks for all your

      Hello
What frustrating timing to lose it – just when you’re getting those photos! It could just be a blip due to the router (the bit with one or more antenna that plugs into the wall) getting itself confused – probably your best bet is it to try turning that off, making sure your laptop/tablet/whatever is also turned off, waiting 5 or 10 minutes, then turning the router on again. Often that’ll sort it out.
      Hope that helps
      Tim
