Good news and bad news from Google

When I was little, there used to be all sorts of jokes based around “There’s good news and there’s bad news”.

Along the lines of “The good news is my Dad bought me a train set for my birthday… the bad news I have to wait until next year for the track.”

They weren’t the best jokes ever, to put it mildly, but it came to mind as I have good news and bad news from Google… or rather some bad news and a tiny bit of good news…

(Anyway, not only did I get track as well as a train set one year, Mum and Dad kept them when I grew up and have passed them back to me ready for when Alastair and Edward outgrow the Thomas the Tank Engine train set they have now…)

Problems with Chrome

I know quite a lot of you use Google Chrome as your browser… and in fact so do I.  Or at least, I did, until last week.

If you use Google Chrome on a computer that runs Windows 7, you might have experienced the same as me… it became unreliable, crashing all the time.  For some people, as soon as you try to go to a website, it crashes.  Which makes it pretty useless.

It turns out it’s due to an update Google made and there are some technical things you can do that sort out the problem for some people… but don’t work for others.

If you want to try to sort it, have a look at the post by Anna Liza here (click on her post on this page to make the detail appear) https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/FwgIERQmHxg[1-25-false] . Or as a simpler move, try making sure you’re not signed into Chrome by clicking on the three lines in the top right hand of the corner, then on the fifth option up, where it says that you’re “signed in as…”

But for some people, the problem isn’t so easy to fix.  Google are working on fixing it, so it might be simplest to do what I’ve done: wait for them to fix it and use a different web browser in the meantime.  I’m using Firefox, which you can download from here: www.mozilla.org but if you have Internet Explorer you could use that instead.  I must admit, I do prefer Chrome… so maybe I’ll switch back once they’ve fixed it… but maybe I’ll get used to Firefox in the meantime.

Flight details via Google: a nifty little trick

A nifty little Google trick: if you type a flight number into Google, it’ll give you details on a flight’s arrival and departure times, what airport it’s going into, terminal numbers and so on.

Give it a try – go to Google and type in BA355 for example.

It could be really useful if you’re meeting someone and want to check times or even what terminal of the airport to go to.

Update on the Inner Circle

Over the summer, I’ve been working on a variety of improvements and new bits on the Inner Circle website.  Well, they’re now done and all set up and working.

I’m still writing up what they are and how they all work, so if you’re a member, you’ll be getting all the details shortly (later this week with any luck), including instructions on how to use them.

If you’re not a member, I’m afraid we’re still not taking any new members until everyone’s using the new features and we can make sure no-one finds any problems I missed!  But we’ll be opening the doors up again in a month or so, at least for a while.  Watch this space!
