What was nagging at my mind last night in bed…

This content is 8 years old. Please, read this page keeping its age in mind. Thank you.

Well, the newly updated “Next Steps on Your PC” and “Next Steps on the Internet” are going fast. In fact we’re starting to wonder if we’ve printed enough – but don’t worry, if it looks like we might run out, we’ll be on the phone to the print company asking for some more!

Anyway, when I wrote the full information and listed what was included, there were a few bits I left out – there’s just too much to list it all. But some of the bits I left out have been bothering me – nagging at my mind as I lay in bed at night (or perhaps that was Edward talking in his sleep again…)

So when I woke up this morning I thought “This is daft. I’ll let everyone see the other notes I jotted down – if it’s too long, never mind, at least people can make up their own minds.”

So here you are – some of the notes I jotted down at the time but then took out of the information about the books because they aren’t quite as important or interesting as the ones I left in:

  • 3 uses of the “redo” feature that I’ll show you – including one clever and slightly sneaky one. Page 5.
  • Doing two things at once, the easy way. Page 6
  • How to use the menus at the top of most programs – people get so confused with these because no-one ever shows you how to use them properly. Page 11
  • Spreadsheets – how to use them and when you really must get double-clicking right (or lose what you’ve already done). Page 26
  • The quickest and easiest way to convert inches to cm, degrees centigrade to fahrenheit or cups to teaspoons. Page 15 (Or come to that, dollars to pounds to euros.)
  • You’ve probably heard of Facebook, but if you’re not sure what it is, the first three sentences on page 24 (under “Facebook: the basic idea”) explain something no-one ever seems to bother to mention.
  • The internet has made lots of things possible, from shopping online to email to reading up to the minute news. But I bet if you asked my Mum and Dad, their favourite thing is on pages 19-23.

Of course, you can see the full(ish) information (including the bits I thought were more important or more interesting) including how to get hold of a pair of the books on free trial.

At the end of the day it’s up to you, but we will try to help with any questions about Macs on the Inner Circle – and usually when we’ve been asked questions about them in the past, we have been able to answer them. But it’s very much geared towards Windows PCs (desktop or laptop) on the one hand and tablets on the other hand – in fact in the marketing info about the Inner Circle we actually say you need a Windows PC or a tablet – to be honest, “need” is probably a bit strong, but I’d probably recommend it for people who do have one or the other (or both).
It is up to you and if you feel you’d like to continue a member so you can ask general questions, then by all means do. But I probably wouldn’t recommend it to someone with a Mac as their computer (unless they also had a tablet that they used a lot).
If you do want to leave, you can just drop us an email at [email protected] – or ring 01229 777606 and we’ll sort it straight away.
