More about what we’re up to

I mentioned recently about how popular iPads and other tablets are getting. But it can be confusing how many different versions there are.

Generally, all the different options fit into three types:

  • iPads, made by Apple
  • Ones made by all sorts of different companies but using Google’s Android system (the Nexus range, Samsung’s tablets, Sony’s, Tesco’s Hudl, even Amazon’s Fire, plus lots of others)
  • Ones running Windows 8 or 8.1 (eg the Surface or some Dell tablets) – these are by far the least popular.

They all do similar things (for example at Christmas Alastair was playing Angry Birds on my iPad but Dad downloaded it onto his Samsung tablet) but you control the three types in different ways.

We’ve already covered Windows 8 in our books for PCs and laptops, but until now we haven’t produced books about iPads or Android tablets – well, that’s what we’re busy working on now.
There are two books – one about iPads and one about Android tablets.

But there’s also one more book, that isn’t quite as obvious (but I think will prove even more popular)… I’ll tell you more about that one next time…
